Garga'oon 2014
>> Friday, June 20, 2014
Every year, 2 weeks before Ramadan, there's an event called "Garga'oon." Each house has candy and the kids go house to house to get some! They say "Nasifa Hallawah" when they come to the door.
Our kids get it mixed up with Halloween, but we think it's very different. For Halloween they get dressed up as characters or something else, but for Garga'oon the boys wear button up shirts and the girls wear traditional dresses. Here's a picture of Joseph and Faith dressed and ready with their Garga'oon bags.
The day before I took Faith to the new salon in the village to get henna. It seemed like all of the little girls in the village had henna!
Even some of the ladies had henna. Melissa and I got henna. Do you like it?
The kids don't start going door to door until after sunset, but we went to a friend's house early to take some pictures!
Marium and Faith had similar dresses, which was fun!
Here's another pic of the kids!
I didn't take as many pictures this year as we were walking around. But here's a few. We had a good time and the kids got lots of candy! Everyone was happy!
A friend of mine sent me this picture from another village close by. Aren't those lights fun?
Here's another pic that shows how the men are in the streets hanging out together!
These next pictures I took off of Instagram. I thought the traditional outfits were so cute!
The young boys still get to wear thobes with vests and a hat. So cute!
I loved all of the bright colors that the girls were wearing!
It's also traditional to wear this gold coin headdress. I'm not sure what it's called, but it's very traditional.
So many people posted pictures of their babies all dressed up! so cute!
I loved this pic of these brothers in matching thobes and vests.
This little girl is wearing another traditional headdress called a bakhnag. Faith wore one last year. I think they're so pretty!
