Traveling through Athens

We were really excited leading up to our trip to Santorini! There were two parts to our trip, one was close to Athens and the other part was on an island called Santorini. This post is about the first part.
We stayed at a nice little resort outside of Athens and the kids loved the pool!
One night we got dressed up and went up to a restaurant in a mountain village for a traditional restaurant. Here's a picture of Melissa and me all dressed up!
The view from the top of the mountain was very pretty and you could see beautiful blue water at the bottom of the mountain.
We took a ferry from where we were staying.
Here's a family pic on the ferry!
Joseph enjoyed seeing this guy dressed like an ancient soldier. His shield and his spear were HUGE!
These are the stairs that lead up to Mars Hill, where Paul preached in Acts 17.
This is a picture of our group standing where Paul stood. Behind us you can see the Acropolis.
Here's another picture of the Acropolis. The parthenon is the temple to the goddess Athena and you can see that it's part of the Acropolis.
This is the view of modern day Athens from Mars Hill.
It seems like climbing trees was more interesting to these kiddos! Thankfully, though, they were so good and didn't complain about all of the walking we did.
This is the temple of Zeus. It's amazing to be close to it...the pillars are so tall. The sad thing is that they were built to honor a false god.
We were able to see the parliament guards do a marching routine. It was so different than anything we'd ever seen!
I had Joseph and Faith take a picture next to the parliament guard after we saw the marching. They're such good sports!
I'm pretty sure that Joseph and Faith's favorite part of Athens were these balloons we bought them. They had been so good all day and we thought they deserved a treat!
We LOVED the Gyros we got to eat! I want to learn how to make them!
Here's a picture of the Acropolis at night. So beautiful!
Our flight was at 4:00am, so that meant we had to be at the airport by 2:00am. That was brutal, but we were so excited it didn't matter too much. We slept as much as we could on the plane. We were excited when we looked out the window and saw the Islands! Beautiful!

We enjoyed some traditional dancing! Opa!!!
We rented a car and spent one day in Athens. We took a ferry from where we were staying.

One more pic of some of the ruins at night. I liked how they lit up in the dark. So pretty.
