Meeting Syrian Refugees

Before leaving Jordan we wanted to get a glimpse of what's happening with Syrian refugees. We drove to a place where many people have fled their homes to find safety. We found ourselves in a very busy town that felt so much different than Amman.
*There are also refugee camps, but we didn't make it to these areas.
We spent a few hours with a really sweet family. There were about 10 adults and 15 kids sitting in the room with us. Their story is very sad and the horrors that they've faced are unimaginable. I got tears in my eyes several times as they shared their story with us.
We were able to share with them where our hope comes from. They are so hungry for the truth, it was an exciting opportunity to share with them!
Despite their sadness they still had smiles on their faces. The children invited Joseph and Faith to play with them. They didn't have toys, but they had gotten ahold of some coloring books. One girl kept showing us the pages that she had colored. She was so proud of her coloring.
There were a couple of babies. The baby that I'm holding in this picture is the 8th child in his family. His older brother in the black shirt obviously takes on a lot of responsibility to take care of his siblings. The father is still in Syria and the mother seemed to be carrying a heavy burden.
The family we visited lived in this house, which is better than other families who live in tents. Even still this house was pretty bare.
The children broke my heart. They've lived through some of the horrors of the awful war that's happening in Syria. I hate that they've been through so much.
As we were leaving I felt so helpless. I wish I could do more for these people. I promised to pray for them.
