A trip through Saudi

>> Sunday, June 30, 2013

On Thursday and Friday we drove through Saudi Arabia to get to Jordan. We drove for two days, a total of 18 hours of driving. We were exhausted once we got here.

We weren't the only ones with the idea to travel north for the summer. There were many Saudis with the same idea. We thought we had packed our car pretty full, but then we saw many cars like this one, full inside and bags stacked on top too!

It's always so exciting to start out a long trip! Joseph and Faith were especially excited!
After we got through the border we got out of the car to do our fingerprints. This picture was on our way back to the car.
We saw camels throughout our trip through Saudi!
There's nothing like the experience of watching the camels crossing the road!
Here's another loaded down Saudi vehicle.
We drove for 10 hours the first day and stayed at this motel. Tim and Joseph went in to check in while we waited in the car.
This was part way through the first day. Their excitement had worn them out.
Here I am with the kids ready to start the second day of our road trip.
Which gas would you choose? We chose the blue one...the other two are diesel.
A mosque and the bathrooms
Our windows were terribly dirty, but the gas stations didn't have window washing squeegees like the States. We were thankful that this nice man was willing to hose us down!
This is really what it looked like most of the way. Pretty boring.
Here's what we looked like as we drove...

Faith playing the leapser.

Joseph watching a movie.
I had to be covered as we drove through this conservative country. I enjoyed some time to read.
It wasn't the easy sort of driving like road trips in the States. Tim had to always be on guard for debris, road construction, and the most dangerous: Saudi drivers. I couldn't give him a break because women aren't allowed to drive in Saudi.

Tim loves to listen to stories, especially the kind that are full of suspense. It keeps him wide awake! This trip he listened to this trilogy by Bryan Litfin.
