Studying Arabic...again!
>> Friday, October 5, 2012
I have started taking Arabic classes at an institute in our city. Now that the kids are in preschool I feel a little more free to put some of my time and energy into improving my Arabic. This bit of extra time is limited because I'll be homeschooling Joseph next year.
This time is a gift and I need to make the most of it. Even though I know this in my head, it doesn't make learning Arabic any easier. This is such a hard language!
I've been thankful for God's grace as I've started studying again. I continue to pray that He will help me to love this language. When I'm really enjoying it, I'm more motivated to work at it!
I am not in a class. I'm doing private tutoring with a local Arab man who has children my age. He's very kind and has even told me that I remind him of one of his daughters. I believe he has more than 10 grandchildren and I can tell that he loves all of them a lot!
We are watching a tv show that's in the local dialect. We stop it often so that he can help me understand what they're saying. We're also doing some reading, some greetings, and some grammar...it's all kind of mixed together!
This Arabic class comes at the perfect time. I get notes from the kids' preschool that are completely in Arabic. I can bring them in to him and he can help me understand!
