Trip to Dubai

Last weekend we took a trip to Dubai! It was a nice time get-away! We flew there with our friend Melissa. She spent her time on the beach, relaxing and soaking in the sun. We, on the other hand, went to the malls and found lots of fun things to do! We went on separate vacations together. That's something, I thought I'd never say.
One of the things we were looking forward to the most was Red Lobster! We have never seen this restaurant outside of the US. We really hoped that they would get two things right: the garlic biscuits and the popcorn shrimp. They did!! We were happy!
Joseph's favorite thing at Red Lobster are the live lobsters in the tank. He was so happy to see them there. We had to stop by a few times to say hi!
We met some dear friends, who were willing to try Red Lobster with us! We were really close to this couple our first two years of living in the Middle East. They were our first Arab neighbors. We learned a lot from them!
It was such a joy to see them!! Here are a few pictures of us together:
After dinner we went to the beach with them!
The next day we drove to meet up with some of our good American friends from language school. We were shocked to see a Wendy's drive thru in the desert!
It was SUCH a blessing to catch up with Tom & Steph and their kids!! Our kids were so happy to play with their kids! It made for a really special time for all of us.
The second night we met up with Mel again, who was already starting to become really tan! We had PF Changs...YUM! We also got to see the Burj and the Dubai Fountain...two more of our favorite things in Dubai.
We LOOOOOVE this fountain! It's so beautiful! If you have a few minutes you should check out this video of it. The song is "Baba Yetu" the Lord's Prayer in Swahili
After the fountain we made our way to another place on our list: The Hershey's Store! It was fun to get a few treats that we can't find at home. Everything smelled so good in there! We especially enjoyed smelling the chocolate candle!
The malls in Dubai are HUGE! It's fun for us to just hang out in the malls! Especially in the summer time when it's so hot that we can't be outside for too long. Here are a few random mall pictures:
I'm pretty sure that the kids' favorite part was going to the aquarium! They loved seeing all of the fish, especially the sharks!
There's a two story tall fish tank, you can see how big it is in this picture. The kids could stand and watch the fish for a long time! Then Faith would turn around and show her teeth saying, "I'm the SHARK!" It was fun!
Here's our little shark girl standing on top of the huge fish tank!
I guess Joseph wanted to swim with the fish...here he is IN the fish tank! haha!
Here's the one great picture we got of all four kids! They sure had fun together!
We had a wonderful time with their parents too! Things sure have changed from when we were in language school and there weren't any kids!
On our way to the airport the last morning we drove down the famous Sheikh Zayed Road. We love seeing all of these unique and tall buildings!
I couldn't help myself from taking one last pic of the Dubai Skyline from the airplane! This is such a great city!
