Schooling Decisions

>> Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Tim and I have been praying all along that God would direct us as we make decisions for our kids' education. I have been planning to homeschool my kids and I can't wait to do it! I got a lot of great ideas from the homeschool conference that I recently went to. God is faithful to continue to direct us in this decision and we're so thankful!

About a month ago we were thinking that it would be a good idea for Faith to go to preschool somewhere so that I could have some one-on-one time with Joseph to homeschool him. We asked God what He wanted us to do and He made it clear by providing a new preschool in the village!!! I met with the director about Faith going there and started to get excited for her.

Within a week or so, we started to see how much Joseph would benefit from going to this preschool. Joseph is a very social boy and tries to play with the boys in the village, but can't communicate with them. They don't speak English and he doesn't speak enough Arabic. This preschool will give him a good foundation in Arabic as well as a great social outlet!

He turns 5 in September, which would make him one of the youngest among his classmates if I started him in Kindergarten. That doesn't matter as much in homeschool. It doesn't hurt to give him a little more time to mature, learn Arabic, and have fun with friends. We're not sure what this will look like in the long run...he might not start kindergarten until next year and this is fine with us! We are trusting God for this school year and we'll trust Him each school year to come. God is good!

So this week I registered Joseph and Faith at this preschool! It's called "Little Darlings Preschool" in Arabic. I filled out their paperwork in Arabic, which was so intimidating, and paid the money. Everything should be ready for them to Start in September!

I'm so excited for Joseph and Faith to go to preschool and get to learn some more Arabic! What a great idea!

How exciting! I'm sure Jojo and Faith are both excited about going to "school." Give them a big hug from Aunt Tonya.

Your decision to allow Joseph to attend the preschool may be a very good one, as we have experienced with our granddaughter JoVi. Her birthday is in September, and our daughter made the decision to put her in kindergarten this past year based on testing results that put her at a first grade level. She is partially hearing impaired and went to a school that focuses on American Sign Language as well as the core curriculum. The school started in July, so she was still 4 years old. During this entire year of kindergarten, we have seen that she, being the youngest in her class, really needed more time to mature. The school and Danielle actually set up a Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) to allow her to have more play time with a reward system, while at the same time allowing her to take 1st grade spelling classes. Maturity would have been better for her in kindergarten, even with her advanced reading and math skills.

We will keep you and the children in our prayers.

That is wonderful! I bet JoJo and Faith are so excited and I'm sure they will really benefit from Arabic immersion at the preschool! What a blessing! I am so proud of you two listening to the voice of the Father directing you!
